PRINCIPALS’ MANAGEMENT TECHINQUES AND BUSINESS STUDIES TEACHERS’ JOB PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN CALABAR MUNICIPAL OF CROSS RIVER STATE

Abstract
The study sought to determine the principals’ management techniques and teacher’s job performance in Secondary schools in Calabar Municipal of Cross River State, Nigeria. Two research questions and two corresponding null hypotheses guided the study. Survey research design was used for the study. The population of the study comprised 97 business studies’ teachers in secondary schools that offer business studies. No sampling was done due to manageable size of the population. The questionnaire titled Principals’ Management Techniques and Business Studies Teachers’ Job Performance questionnaire was used for data collection containing 10 items and it was validated by three experts, two from department of business education and one from measurement and evaluation in the department of educational foundation, University of Calabar. Data collected were analyzed using different statistical techniques. The research questions were answered using mean and standard deviation while the hypotheses were tested using t-test statistics at.05 level of significance. The result of the analysis revealed among others that principals’ leadership styles affect business studies teachers’ job performance to a great extent. Based on the findings, it was recommendation among that school principals should endeavor to adopt management techniques that will create an enabling environment for teachers’ job satisfaction to maximize their performance.
